Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, the Uzbekistan Pavilion will present a unique concept titled "Garden of Knowledge: Laboratory of the Society of the Future," reflecting the country’s centuries-old cultural heritage and its commitment to sustainable development.

The project, carried out by the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Fund in collaboration with the ATELIER BRÜCKNER studio, will serve as a platform for dialogue between traditions and modern technologies within the global theme of the exhibition—“Designing Future Societies.”

Architecture and Design: Connecting Eras

The pavilion is inspired by the historical caravanserais of the Great Silk Road, where travelers exchanged knowledge. Its structure combines natural materials, interactive media installations, and elements of Uzbek craftsmanship, creating the image of the "Garden of Knowledge" — a space for education, innovation, and international cooperation.

Key Elements:

A 360-degree multimedia platform – Japan’s first interactive zone, where guests are immersed in the history of Uzbekistan's transformations in just 3 minutes.

The “Forest of Columns” on the rooftop terrace – an architectural reference to the Juma Mosque in Khiva, using eco-friendly wood and NFC tags to track the origins of materials.

11,000 hand-crafted turquoise tiles by ceramicist Abdulvahid Bukhari Karimov, decorating the interior.

Sustainable Development and Cultural Dialogue

The pavilion’s exhibition highlights Uzbekistan’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy): showcasing projects in renewable energy, including wind farms and “green” transportation.

SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure): initiatives for the restoration of the Aral Sea with Japan's support.

SDG 4 (Quality Education): the international project Homo Faber, uniting artisans and designers.

Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated: "Uzbekistan, drawing on its rich heritage, is confidently moving toward a future where sustainability, digitalization, and artificial intelligence are the foundation of progress. Our pavilion at Expo 2025 is a symbol of this transformation and our openness to global partnerships."

Cultural Program and Events

From 13 April to 13 October 2025, guests will be treated to a vibrant program, including:

May: A performance by the Uzbekistan National Symphony Orchestra and the Richter Trio.

September: Celebration of Uzbekistan’s National Day.

Thematic weeks focused on biodiversity, art, and sustainable development.

Gayane Umerova, Chairperson of the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Fund, commented: "This pavilion is a manifesto of our country, where the past meets the future. Like Japan, Uzbekistan believes in the power of cultural exchange, and we are ready to strengthen global connections for mutual prosperity."

Designer Nada Debs added: "In creating the pavilion's interiors, we combined Japanese and Uzbek traditions, demonstrating how cultural dialogue fosters new forms of art."
