Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 25 September 2025, the 42nd session of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Assembly opened in Montreal, Canada. The world’s largest civil aviation forum has brought together more than 3,000 delegates from 193 states.

The Uzbek delegation is headed by Tohir Nazarov, Director of the Uzaviatsiya Agency under the Ministry of Transport. The delegation also includes representatives of specialized institutions responsible for the development of civil aviation, international cooperation, and flight safety.

In their opening remarks, ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano and ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar emphasized that global aviation is facing challenges that demand collective solutions.

Particular focus was placed on industry decarbonization, the adoption of innovative technologies, and the training of new specialists.

Uzbekistan’s participation in the Assembly carries significant importance for strengthening international cooperation and further integrating the country into the global aviation community. Members of the delegation are actively engaged in discussions on key issues ranging from flight safety to the development of sustainable aviation infrastructure.

The Assembly’s agenda includes the election of a new ICAO Council comprising 36 member states, the adoption of the organization’s budget for the next three years, and the review of performance in technical, legal, economic, and financial areas. Special attention will be given to ICAO’s strategic objectives through 2028.

According to Tohir Nazarov, Uzbekistan’s participation in the Assembly will “strengthen partnerships with leading international organizations, expand the exchange of expertise, and open new opportunities for the modernization of the national aviation system.”

The 42nd ICAO Assembly will serve as an important platform for advancing Uzbekistan’s aviation initiatives aimed at enhancing flight safety, developing the country’s transit potential, and implementing modern technologies.
