Uzbekistan Parliamentary Delegation Concludes Visit to Singapore
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 18 to 20 November, a parliamentary delegation from Uzbekistan, led by the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Nuriddin Ismoilov, conducted an official visit to the Republic of Singapore.
During meetings at the Singapore Parliament, both sides discussed the current state of inter-parliamentary cooperation and explored opportunities for its further expansion.
The Speaker of Uzbekistan’s Legislative Chamber presented detailed information on the reforms being implemented under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the country’s economic and socio-political spheres, their outcomes, and the activities of the Legislative Chamber.
The Speaker of the Singapore Parliament, Seah Kian Peng, highlighted Uzbekistan’s significance as a partner in Central Asia and praised the high-level mutual visits that took place in 2023. He proposed intensifying cooperation at the level of parliamentary committees, emphasizing the positive changes and large-scale reforms taking place in Uzbekistan. Members of the Singaporean Parliament noted that the laws being enacted reflect international experience, are oriented toward the interests of the people, and that the country demonstrates stable growth and development across all sectors.
During the visit, the delegation met with the President of the Republic of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who expressed positive expectations for Uzbekistan’s future and emphasized the importance of the visits by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Singapore and former President Halimah Yacob to Uzbekistan as a catalyst for strengthening bilateral relations. The Singaporean President also noted that agreements reached are being successfully implemented and that inter-parliamentary ties are growing stronger.
The Uzbek delegation held a meeting with the Head of the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau of Singapore, Vincent Lee, gaining detailed insight into the Bureau’s work and programs promoting societal intolerance to corruption. Both sides discussed prospects for further cooperation.
Additionally, the delegation met with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Singapore to Uzbekistan, Zulkifli bin Baharuddin.
All discussions were held in a warm, open, and friendly atmosphere, reflecting the high level of bilateral engagement between the parliaments and governments of the two countries.
