Uzbekistan MPs Approve Measures to Ensure Transparency in Public Procurement

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis reviewed in its first reading a draft law aimed at preventing violations in the field of public procurement.

The draft law proposes amendments to Article 175-8 of the Administrative Liability Code, introducing responsibility for officials who fail to conduct a comprehensive examination when concluding direct contracts subject to mandatory review.

During discussions, deputies highlighted instances of breaches of current legislation, including the conclusion of direct contracts by state customers without preparing procurement documentation, setting requirements for suppliers, conducting document reviews, or creating a competitive environment.

Special attention was given to preventing the omission of comprehensive examinations of direct contracts and regulating administrative liability for officials who commit such violations.

Deputies emphasized the importance of the draft law in ensuring transparency and legality in public procurement processes. Following the review, the draft law was approved in the second reading.
