Uzbekistan Modernizes Training of Agricultural and Water Engineers
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The President of Uzbekistan Shavkatr Mirziyoyev has signed a resolution aimed at further improving the system of training engineers in agriculture and water management.
The document introduces new educational approaches at the National Research University “Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers.”
Starting from 1 May 2026, student internships will be organized in two formats. A six-month qualification internship under a dual education model will involve fieldwork with a temporary break from theoretical studies. For other bachelor’s programs, a “4+2” system will be introduced, integrating practical training with academic coursework throughout the year.
Leading professors and researchers will be assigned to regions, serving as scientific advisors to regional governors (hokims) on agricultural and water management issues. Field-based training will also be conducted at профиль organizations and regional “Water Schools.”
An Office of Advanced Projects will be established within the university to support innovation and project implementation in the sector.
Beginning in the 2026/2027 academic year, the university will launch preparatory courses for local and international students, covering academic subjects, including STEAM disciplines, language training, and academic writing. The one-year program will be offered on a fee-paying basis in line with international standards.
From the 2027/2028 academic year, graduates of these courses who achieve high academic results will be eligible for university admission based on exam performance.
As part of integrating educational levels, the Tashkent Geodesy and Cartography Technical School will be attached to the university under a “technical school–university” model, forming a new General Engineering Faculty.
Additionally, changes will be made to master’s programs, with the specialty “Water Diplomacy” being renamed “International Water Diplomacy.” Graduates will receive the qualification of “Specialist in International Water Relations.”
