Uzbekistan Men’s Boxing Team Wins Five Gold and Five Silver Medals at CIS Games

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The men’s boxing team of Uzbekistan concluded its participation at the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Games in Azerbaijan with outstanding results, earning a total of ten medals — five gold and five silver.

Gold medals were claimed by Behruz Rokhataliev (up to 54 kg), who secured a decisive 5–0 victory over Erbol Baratakunov from Kyrgyzstan; Bobomurod Boimirzayev (up to 57 kg), whose opponent withdrew from the final; Dilshod Akhmadjonov (up to 63 kg), who defeated Russia’s David Karababaev 3–2; and Oybekjon Abdurakhimov (up to 70 kg), who confidently overcame Albert Kobzev from Russia with a 5–0 score. In the 75 kg category final, Khurshidbek Juraev earned another gold by defeating Russia’s Roman Zaporozhets 4–1.

Silver medals were won by Utkirbek Norkosimov (up to 46 kg), who lost to Azerbaijan’s Gardash Rahimov 2–3; Azizbek Shokirjonov (up to 50 kg), who was defeated by Behruz Umarov of Tajikistan 0–5; Otabek Nurmukhammadov (up to 60 kg), who lost to Azerbaijan’s Shahin Aslanov 1–4; and Kamronbek Khamdamov (up to 66 kg), who narrowly missed victory against Russia’s Maksim Sobolev 2–3.

In the final bout of the competition, in the over 80 kg category, Farkhodjon Bakhodirov also entered the ring but lost to Azerbaijani boxer Safar Mammadzada 1–4.
