Uzbekistan Marks World Food Day: Schools Promote Healthy Eating Habits
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An educational event dedicated to World Food Day was held at School No. 13 in the Zangiata District.
The initiative was organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Preschool and School Education of Uzbekistan, as part of FAO’s project to support food security and the development of school nutrition programs.
World Food Day, established by the FAO Conference in 1979, annually draws attention to issues of nutrition, sustainable food systems, and the prevention of malnutrition.
Competitions and Educational Activities
As part of the event, a contest titled “Best Recipe for Healthy and Environmentally Sustainable Nutrition” was held for students. Teams presented nutritious and affordable dishes, highlighting both their dietary value and environmental sustainability.
Students also participated in an interactive quiz, “Eating Right — Saving the Planet.” The questions were based on educational materials previously provided to schools, including “12 Principles of Healthy Eating,” “5 Keys to Safe Nutrition,” and “5 Rules for Environmentally Responsible Behavior.”
Winners of the contest received commemorative prizes from FAO, followed by a recreational program organized for the students.
FAO Project Coordinator Orifjon Namozov emphasized the importance of developing proper nutrition habits in childhood:
“Instilling healthy eating habits from an early age is a fundamental basis for a healthy and sustainable future. Initiatives like these in schools not only promote a healthy lifestyle but also strengthen children’s sense of environmental responsibility.”
Organizers highlighted that implementing healthy nutrition programs in schools contributes to children’s well-being and supports Uzbekistan’s efforts to develop sustainable food systems.
