Uzbekistan marks Day of Remembrance of Repression Victims

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited Shahidlar Hotirasi memorial complex on 31 August to commemorate those who died for freedom and independence.

Uzbekistan marks Day of Remembrance of Repression Victims on 31 August and as a tradition events dedicated to the Day were held at Shahidlar Hotirasi memorial complex.

Uzbek leader met with representatives of religious organizations and public and shared his opinion on events in Uzbekistan and the world. He also outlined important tasks.

President Islam Karimov said that all know well those works, which were conducted in Uzbekistan, to revive national values. But, he added, new challenges and threats put new tasks before the country. He said that upbringing young generation in line with national values and barring them from alien destructive ideas are becoming actual issues.

“We must never forget that the main aim of those who, pursuing their own selfish interests, puts forward such destructive ideas - is to turn from the true path of young people, who do not have enough life experience and a solid political position, use them to implement their destructive intentions,” Islam Karimov said.

On the same day, President Islam Karimov visited Mustaqillik Square and laid flowers to monument of Independence and Humanism, which is a symbol of freedom, bright future and noble aspirations.

Representatives of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Cabinet of Ministers, ministries and departments, as well public also laid flowers to the monument.
