At the session, the commission exchange information on development of economic relations and expressed readiness to continue to strengthen and development of economic and trade relations.
The commission underlined that economic cooperation between Lithuania and Uzbekistan is becoming more active and last year mutual trade rose by 57% to 40.6 million euros. The figure is the highest in last ten years.
The commission underlined that trade turnover is also increasing with rapid pace in 2013. In January-Aril 2013, the figure rose three times compared to the same period of 2012.
At the meeting, it was noted that Lithuanian companies, working in information technologies, agriculture and food industries, production of construction materials, transport and medical services, have opportunities to develop cooperation with Uzbekistan. The sides have also opportunities to develop cooperation in science and education. It was said that it is important to establish direct contacts among higher educational institutes of two states.
The Lithuanian delegation also underlined that there are wide opportunities for cooperation in transport sector. It was said Uzbekistan can use services of strategically important Port of Klaipeda and transport and logistical infrastructure of Lithuania to transport cargoes on East-West transport corridor.
The event was attended by representatives of ministries and departments, business circles of two states.
After the session of the inter-governmental commission, the business forum of Lithuania and Uzbekistan was held.
