Uzbekistan Launches PAGE Program to Support Green Economy
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 20 November 2025, Uzbekistan officially launched the PAGE (Partnership for Action on Green Economy) program, an initiative aimed at promoting a green economy.
The program is being implemented by the Ministry of Economy and Finance with support from United Nations agencies and is focused on strengthening the capacity of national institutions, establishing a unified monitoring and evaluation (M&E) system for national emissions trading, and financing green economy initiatives.
The launch event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, the International Labour Organization, as well as experts and officials from the PAGE program. During the meeting, participants discussed the program’s objectives, expected outcomes, and next steps for its implementation.
Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Umid Abidhadzhayev emphasized Uzbekistan’s strong commitment to combating climate change and promoting sustainable development, highlighting the importance of market-based mechanisms, including carbon pricing tools, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Tim Scott, Senior Policy Advisor for Environmental Governance at UNDP, recognized Uzbekistan as a regional leader in adopting green economy practices and reaffirmed PAGE’s readiness to provide ongoing support for the country’s reform efforts.
Participants stressed the importance of effectively coordinating the program with national initiatives and agreed on the need to further advance collaborative efforts in the field of green economy.
