Uzbekistan Launches Investment Project to Build Energy Storage System in Tashkent Region
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree to implement an investment project for the construction of an energy storage system (BESS) in the Zangiata district of Tashkent Region.
The project, with a capacity of 150 MW and an energy storage volume of 300 MWh, will be carried out by the Chinese company EAGLERISE DEVELOPMENT HK COMPANY LIMITED through its subsidiary in Uzbekistan, Meda Energy Power TECH LLC.
The new facility will become a key element in ensuring the stability of Tashkent’s power system. BESS energy storage systems are critical for integrating renewable energy sources, allowing for the smoothing of consumption peaks and storing excess energy generated by solar or wind plants during the day for use during periods of maximum demand.
The investment agreement between the Government of Uzbekistan and the Chinese investor was signed on 2 December 2025.
To ensure uninterrupted operation and financial stability of the project, Uzenergosotish JSC, acting as the sole electricity purchaser, has committed to guaranteed electricity offtake for 25 years. Payments will be made in the national currency with indexing to the US dollar, protecting the investor from currency risks.
