Uzbekistan Launches International Agricultural Carbon Project

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has launched an international project aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability in agriculture.

A cooperation agreement was signed by Swiss company Bizpando AG, the Republican Agrosystem Services Center (AKIS), and the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC).

The initiative involves engaging cotton farmers in a carbon credit system. Under the project, farmers will produce biochar and compost, apply them to fields to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and simultaneously improve soil fertility.

The reduction in carbon emissions achieved through these activities will be certified according to international standards and sold on the global market, creating an additional income source for farmers.

Bizpando AG manages the formation and sale of carbon credits, AKIS coordinates implementation across Uzbekistan, and ICAC provides scientific and agronomic support. The majority of funds from carbon credit sales will go directly to the farmers.

Experts consider the project an important step in developing environmentally focused agriculture and advancing Uzbekistan’s green economy.
