Uzbekistan Launches First Phase of Green Hydrogen Production

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The first phase of a green hydrogen production project in Chirchik, Tashkent Region, has been successfully completed, the Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan reported.

The project, initiated by the Saudi company ACWA Power with a total investment of US$88 million, has created 40 new jobs.

In November 2023, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev officially inaugurated the pilot facility for green hydrogen production in Tashkent Region with ACWA Power’s participation.

The project is structured in two phases: the first phase envisages the production of 3,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, which was launched in 2025.

The second phase will include the production of up to 500,000 tonnes of ammonia per year based on green hydrogen, as well as the construction of a wind farm with a total installed capacity of up to 2.4 gigawatts. This will mark a significant step toward the development of sustainable energy and a green economy in Uzbekistan.
