Uzbekistan launches charitable campaign to combat COVID-19 in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - During a videoconference, representatives of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United States and compatriots living in the United States and Canada launched a charity event to raise funds to help infected COVID-19 in our country, Dunyo reported.

The event was attended by representatives of all communities in the United States and Canada. These included the leaders of the Turkestan-American Association (New Jersey), the Congress of Bukhara Jews of the USA and Canada (New York City), the Association of Uzbeks in America (Washington), the Uzbek Society in Atlanta (Georgia), the Uzbek- the American Association in Chicago, the Uzbek-American Association of Vatandosh, the Uzbek Community Center in the San Francisco Bay, the Society of Uzbeks in Pittsburgh, the Uzbek Mahalla Society in Seattle, the Commonwealth of Uzbeks in Greater Philadelphia, the Diaspora Organ ation «Mahalla USA» (New York City).

The compatriots received detailed information about the epidemiological situation in Uzbekistan, as well as consistent measures to contain and mitigate the consequences of COVID-19 in the country.

Participants of the event discussed the launch of a charity campaign to raise funds to fight COVID-19 in Uzbekistan. It was noted that the funds raised will be used to provide assistance to patients with coronavirus infection in Uzbekistan, health workers involved in the fight against COVID-19, to purchase medical equipment and personal protective equipment, to build, reconstruct and repair medical facilities, as well as to provide necessary assistance socially vulnerable groups of the population.

During the online conference, representatives of the Embassy and the Consulate General asked compatriots to support the efforts of the Uzbek leadership to combat the pandemic.

The head of the Turkestan-American Association, A. Hodja, noted that compatriots in the United States cannot stand aside and do nothing when the people of Uzbekistan go through serious trials.

According to the President of the Congress of Bukhara Jews of the USA and Canada, B. Kandov, the charity event put forward by the diplomatic institutions of Uzbekistan is a unique opportunity for every Uzbek living on the American continent and not indifferent to the fate of his historic homeland.

As a result of the videoconference, the participants accepted a joint appeal from diplomatic institutions and diaspora organizations to compatriots, and a charity event on the Go Fund Me platform was launched.

The action will be held under the slogan "Biz Uzbekistonga befark emasmiz." The proceeds will be transferred to a special account of the Public Fund “Uzbekistan mehr-shafqat va salomatlik”.
