Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan to resume automobile communication via M-39 highway from 15 May
According to the resolution of the President of Uzbekistan from 26 April, automobile check points “Oq Oltin” and “Malik” at the Uzbek-Kazakh state borders will start to operate.
The document said that these checkpoints will be open for movement of automobiles. Commercial cargoes will not be able to pass these checkpoints.
Gazeta.uz reported that citizens of Uzbekistan would pass these checkpoints on simplified procedure. The citizens will undergo passport and customs inspection.
The highway M-39 was closed in 2006. It created difficulties for population movement, including to travel between Tashkent and Samarkand.
After launch of the road, citizens of Tashkent can travel to Samarkand, bypassing road via Jizzakh. The travel distance between Tashkent and Samarkand will decrease from 89 to 24.5 km.
