Uzbekistan Joins the Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has officially submitted its accession documents to the Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage. The event took place in Vienna with the participation of representatives from the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Austria and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi.

During the meeting, the Uzbek delegation handed over the required documents to the IAEA, confirming the country’s readiness to operate in the nuclear field in accordance with international standards. Rafael Grossi noted that Uzbekistan had joined four key international nuclear conventions in a short period and expressed gratitude for the country’s active engagement in international cooperation.

Accession to the Vienna Convention opens up multiple opportunities for Uzbekistan: the safe and efficient use of nuclear energy, the resolution of economic and legal issues related to nuclear damage, and strengthening the reliability of the national nuclear infrastructure at the international level.

Furthermore, the country enhances its status as a trusted partner in nuclear safety, creating additional advantages for attracting international investments and implementing technological projects. This step also contributes to improving the legislative framework for protecting the population and the environment.
