Uzbekistan Issues Flash Flood and Mudflow Warnings in Nine Regions Due to Expected Heavy Rain
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Due to anticipated precipitation, flash floods and mudflows may occur in nine regions of Uzbekistan.
The warning was issued by Uzbekhydromet, noting that heavy rainfall is forecast for February 25–26.
The highest likelihood of mudflows is expected in Kashkadarya region, particularly in the districts of Yakkabag, Dehkanabad, Chirakchi, Kitab, Shakhrisabz, Kamashi, and Guzar.
In Surkhandarya region, the districts at risk include Sariosiyo, Uzun, Altynsay, Denau, Baysun, Sherabad, Shurchi, Kumkurgan, and Muzrabat.
In Samarkand region, flash floods and mudflows may affect Urgut, Samarkand, Bulungur, Nurabad, Koshrabot, Kattakurgan, Payarik, Jomboy, and Ishtikhan districts. In Navoi region, the warning covers Khatyrchi, Navbahor, Nurata, Kanimekh, and Karman districts.
In Jizzakh region, Zaamin, Bakhmal, Gallyaaral, Sharaf-Rashidov, Farish, and Yangiyab districts face increased risk. In Tashkent region, areas at risk include Akhangaran, Bostanlyk, Parkent, Pskent, Urtachirchik, Yukorichirchik, as well as the cities of Angren and Almalyk.
In Namangan region, potential mudflows are expected in Pap, Kosonsoy, Chartak, Chust, Namangan, and Yangikurgan districts. Ferghana region is under warning for Sokh, Shahimardan, Ferghana, and Besharik districts.
In Andijan region, rainfall may trigger flash floods and mudflows in Andijan, Asaka, Jalakuduk, Kurgantepa, Pakhtaabad, Izboskan, Khodjaabad, Markhamat districts, as well as the city of Khanabad.
Meteorologists urge residents in the affected areas to exercise caution, avoid being near mountain slopes and riverbanks, and follow updates from local authorities regarding possible evacuations.
