Uzbekistan Investigates Incident Involving Environmental Inspector in Buvayda District
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Authorities have launched an internal investigation after a video circulated on social media showing an incident involving an environmental inspector in the Buvayda district, according to local officials.
Preliminary information indicates that Ahrorjon Niyozov, an inspector with the Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, visited the site following a complaint from residents and documented what he believed to be an illegal tree cutting. He attempted to stop the violation and prepare the necessary paperwork.
Rasul Kusherbayev, an adviser to the committee chairman, said that the district’s deputy hokim, Saidali Khizirov, allegedly used force against the inspector and, with assistance from National Guard personnel, brought him to the local police department.
The Buvayda district administration confirmed that an internal review is under way. Officials said that measures will be taken in accordance with the law, and the findings will be announced separately.
