Uzbekistan introduces criminal liability for failure to report about terrorism acts
The corresponding changes were introduced into Criminal Code of Uzbekistan. On 20 January, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a law “On introduction of changes and amendments to some legislative acts of Uzbekistan”.
The Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law on 4 December 2013 and the Senate approved it on 13 December 2013.
According to new article 155-1 to Criminal Code, Uzbekistan sets liability for failure to inform about planned or committed terrorism act, which were proved by preliminary investigation and during court hearing.
The crime is punished from 100 to 300 sizes of minimal salary or correction works up to three years, or with jail sentence from 3 to 5 years.
The same crime, which resulted in death of person or other heavy consequences, will be punished with the fine from 300 to 600 sizes of minimal salary or jail term from 5 to 7 years.
The Criminal Code was also expanded with article 155-2, which envisages liability for undergoing training to carry out terrorism activity.
The person, who undergo training to carry out terrorism acts, including training on committing such crimes, using weapons and explosives, and other dangerous tools, will be punished with a fine from 300 to 600 sizes of minimal salary or correction works up to three years or jail term from five to seven years.
The persons,who committed crime related to training to commit terrorism act, will be revealed from criminal liability, if they report on the crime to the authorities and helped to detect a crime or reveal persons, who undergo terrorism training, or financed trainings, etc.
