Uzbekistan intends to introduce a system of voluntary eco-labeling of products

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan intends to introduce a system of voluntary eco-labeling of products manufactured in the country.

The State Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection has launched this initiative.

The draft resolution “On creation of a system of voluntary eco-labeling of products manufactured in the Republic of Uzbekistan” has been published for discussion.

The document notes that the schedule for the development of standards for labeling products is planned to be approved for the period 2019-2022.

The sign of environmental safety is a single sign of environmental safety, used for labeling products manufactured in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The system is introduced to ensure that citizens are aware of the properties of products, services, technological processes, create conditions for increasing the volume of exports of products and services produced in the Republic of Uzbekistan by guaranteeing their environmental safety, as well as a phased transition to ISO 14000 ).

The labeling of products with the environmental safety mark is carried out voluntarily on the basis of the applicant’s appeal to the body on voluntary environmental labeling in accordance with the agreements concluded.

Products will be labeled, the production of which has the least impact on the environment, public health and biological resources.

The document proposes to prohibit the use of the words "organic", "eco", "bio" and the like in the name, packaging, accompanying documentation and its advertising without a certificate of voluntary environmental labeling.

Medicinal products, veterinary drugs, medical devices, products containing substances, drugs and mixtures classified in accordance with government regulations and standards as toxic, mutagenic, carcinogenic, and dangerous to the environment are not subject to voluntary environmental labeling.

It is expected that the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Ecology and Environmental Protection will be the authorized body for the organization of work in the field of voluntary environmental labeling.

The environmental labeling authorities will need to have a quality management system and agreements to engage accredited test centers for testing during the labeling procedure.
