Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An interactive meeting held in Delhi, organized by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), marked an important step in strengthening bilateral cooperation in the jewelry sector, according to the Dunyo news agency.
Established in 1966 with the support of India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, GJEPC is one of the country’s largest non-profit organizations, uniting more than 7,500 companies. Its structure includes specialized educational institutions and design centers, ensuring comprehensive development of the jewelry industry and the training of qualified professionals.
The event brought together representatives of the Uzbekzargarsanoat Association, as well as Indian companies affiliated with GJEPC. Regional Chairman Antarpal Singh Sawhney and Regional Director Ashutosh Srivastava confirmed the strong interest of Indian businesses in expanding partnerships with Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to India Sardor Rustambaev presented detailed information on the country’s ongoing socio-economic reforms and the favorable conditions created for business and investment. He highlighted the steady growth in bilateral trade and emphasized that the jewelry sector is becoming an important area of Uzbek–Indian cooperation.
Chairman of the Uzbekzargarsanoat Association Nodir Mirakhmedov outlined the current state and future prospects of Uzbekistan’s jewelry industry. Participants were informed about government support measures aimed at attracting investment, as well as opportunities for implementing joint projects.
During the Q&A session, Indian entrepreneurs received clarifications on key aspects of doing business in Uzbekistan, including specifics of the jewelry market, quality requirements for precious metals and stones, and issues related to raw material supply.
Following the official program, representatives of the Uzbek side visited a профиль institute and a gemstone research laboratory operating under GJEPC.
The talks resulted in concrete agreements aimed at advancing practical cooperation. In particular, the parties expressed interest in organizing a visit of a delegation of Indian jewelry companies to Uzbekistan in June this year. It is expected that Indian business representatives will take part in the Fifth Tashkent International Investment Forum.
In addition, an agreement was reached to establish cooperation in training specialists for Uzbekistan’s jewelry industry, leveraging the educational potential and experience of India’s specialized institutions.
