Uzbekistan Increases Gas Exports by 24% While Cutting Imports by Nearly 28%

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In the first eight months of 2025, Uzbekistan increased its exports of natural gas while simultaneously reducing imports, according to data from the National Statistics Committee.

From January to August, the country exported gas worth US$494.7 million, a 24.1% increase compared to the same period last year. China remains the main destination for these exports.

At the same time, oil exports totaled US$399.6 million, down 2% compared to January–August 2024.

Gas imports during the reporting period decreased to US$885.9 million, nearly 27.9% below last year’s level, with Uzbekistan sourcing gas from Russia and Turkmenistan. Oil imports from abroad amounted to approximately US$1.31 billion, 7.8% lower than a year earlier.

Meanwhile, domestic natural gas production continued to decline. From January to August 2025, production totaled 28.9 billion cubic meters, 4% less than during the same period in 2024.
