Uzbekistan Increases Fuel Production and Imports to Meet Winter Demand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 11 December, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, outlined measures to ensure the country is supplied with automotive gasoline, diesel fuel, and fuel oil amid heightened winter demand and restrictions on the operation of gas stations, during a session of the Legislative Chamber.

According to forecasts, total diesel demand is expected to reach 776,000 tons. To meet this demand, a total of 740,000 tons is planned: 317,000 tons will be supplied by Uzbekneftegaz, 196,000 tons by the company Saneg, and an additional 227,000 tons will come from imports.

The minister also noted a growing demand for aviation kerosene due to increased tourism and air travel. The plan is to provide 223,000 tons of aviation fuel, of which 168,000 tons will be produced domestically and 74,000 tons imported.

Following the cessation of Ai‑80 gasoline production on September 1 and its sale on December 1, production of higher-grade gasoline has been increased to compensate for the shortfall. Production of Ai‑92 and higher grades rose from 80,000 to 100,000 tons per month, with reserves already established.

Currently, Uzbekneftegaz has stockpiled 85,000 tons of gasoline for the winter period.

According to the Customs Committee, in the first 11 months of 2025, Uzbekistan imported petroleum products worth US$1.42 billion, a 6% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Diesel fuel imports nearly doubled, rising from 365,200 to 679,500 tons, while gasoline imports increased by 12.6% to 746.1 million liters. Kerosene imports grew 2.6 times in volume and more than threefold in value.
