Uzbekistan Hosts 5th Turkic States Space Agencies Meeting

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 30 March 2026, Uzbekistan hosted the 5th meeting of heads of space agencies and authorized bodies from member and observer states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). The event was held within the Space Technology Conference – 2026, aiming to strengthen multilateral cooperation in space technologies.

With the global space economy surpassing US$500 billion and projected to reach US$1 trillion by 2030, developing space technology is of strategic importance for OTS countries. The combined population of participating states exceeds 170 million, while the region’s vast geography offers a significant market for space services, including remote sensing, communications, and navigation.

Leaders from the space agencies of Uzbekistan, Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Kyrgyzstan, along with representatives from observer states — Hungary and Turkmenistan — and international partners attended. Participants reviewed recent achievements and discussed priority directions for further development.

Key discussions focused on a joint technological satellite project, promoting exchange of scientific expertise, pooling research potential, and training young specialists. The use of satellite data in agriculture, water management, environmental monitoring, disaster early warning systems, and the development of analytical platforms using GIS and big data were highlighted. Collaboration with the private sector and joint educational programs were also addressed.

In recent years, OTS countries have made notable advances: Türkiye and Kazakhstan launched Earth observation satellites, Azerbaijan provides international telecommunications services, and Uzbekistan applies space monitoring for land and water management, ecology, geology, and agriculture.

The fifth meeting marked an important milestone in coordinating OTS space policy, building shared infrastructure, and creating a regional space ecosystem. The event strengthens Uzbekistan’s international position in the space sector, promotes innovative strategies, and enhances its status as a regional technology hub.
