Uzbekistan Gains Voting Rights in the EDB Digital Initiatives Fund

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — By becoming a shareholder of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), Uzbekistan has gained the right to participate in the work of the EDB Digital Initiatives Fund and to delegate its representatives with voting rights to the committee that approves the fund’s plans, budgets, and financing projects. This was announced by EDB Deputy Chairman of the Management Board Tigran Sargsyan during a videoconference.

“Uzbekistan, having joined the EDB as a shareholder, can now take part in the work of the Digital Initiatives Fund and appoint two representatives with voting rights to the committee that approves its plans, budgets, and projects for financing,” Sargsyan stated.

Previously, Uzbekistan participated in the Eurasian Economic Union as an observer. Now, as a full-fledged shareholder of the bank, the country can not only influence the fund’s strategic decisions but also set its own digital transformation priorities through EDB mechanisms.

According to Sargsyan, the Uzbek government has already appointed its representative to the committee, who maintains close coordination with national ministries and agencies.

This enables efficient alignment of the bank’s analytical materials with Uzbekistan’s national priorities and directs funding to key digitalization areas, including infrastructure and innovation projects.

The EDB continues systematic work to assess the digital potential of its member states by developing “country passports” that identify key strengths and challenges. These findings are discussed with national governments, after which the bank promotes projects aligned with each country’s strategic priorities.
