Uzbekistan Forms Special Commission to Oversee Phaseout of AI-80 Gasoline
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has established a special government commission to oversee the nationwide phaseout of AI-80 gasoline as part of urgent measures to improve air quality in Tashkent.
The commission, created under a presidential decree, will monitor compliance with previously issued orders and regulations, including requirements for installing air-filtration equipment at industrial facilities.
Officials said the body is also authorized to impose temporary restrictions on industrial operations, transport, heating systems and other sectors during periods of high dust levels. It may suspend or halt the work of greenhouses and other facilities deemed to contribute to air pollution.
Uzbekistan will end retail sales of AI-80 gasoline on 1 December 2025. The presidential decree issued on Nov. 18 aims to tighten oversight of the fuel market and ensure the public has access to higher-quality, more environmentally friendly gasoline.
Authorities say the phaseout is expected to improve environmental conditions across the regions and raise national fuel-use standards.
