Uzbekistan Establishes Center for Paralympic National Teams

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree aimed at further developing Paralympic sports.

The document covers key disciplines, including para-athletics, para-judo, para-taekwondo, para-swimming, para-powerlifting, and para-shooting. Its objectives are to increase interest in sports among people with disabilities, create the necessary conditions for training, and build a talent pool for national teams. Special emphasis is placed on identifying and selecting talented young athletes using digital selection tools.

The decree establishes an improved system for preparing Paralympic athletes. Athletes will have opportunities to train in both specialized and regular sports groups, attend training camps, and, depending on regional needs, certain state sports schools will focus on Paralympic disciplines. Early classification of athletes’ disability categories will ensure accurate categorization, while specialized sports facilities will be allocated for quality preparation of national teams in each sport.

From 1 January 2026, a new procedure for forming republican national teams in Paralympic sports will take effect. Selection will be based on athletes’ competition results and compliance with sports standards. Organizing national championships or cups to form teams is not mandatory. All results will be recorded in the electronic management system “ERP-sport,” enabling efficient monitoring of standards and better management of the training process.

As part of implementing the decree, a Center for Paralympic National Teams will be established in the Olympic Village of Tashkent, in the Yashnabad district.

The center will serve as a key element of infrastructure for athlete training, holding camps, and implementing modern training methods, contributing to the further development of Paralympic sports at the national level.
