Uzbekistan Establishes Agency for Light Industry Development

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree titled “On Creating Additional Conditions for the Production of High Value-Added Goods and Increasing Export Volumes in the Light Industry Sector.”

According to the document, an Agency for Light Industry Development will be established under the Cabinet of Ministers. It will serve as the authorized state body responsible for shaping and implementing priority directions in the textile, leather and footwear, silk, and carpet-weaving industries.

A Public Council for Light Industry will also operate under the Agency.

Starting from 1 October 2025, enterprises in the sector will gain access to new financial support measures. These include compensation for expenses related to attracting international brands, implementing standardization and certification systems, and transitioning to international financial reporting standards. The state will also cover part of the costs of insuring export contracts and provide grants for training specialists.

Additionally, companies will be eligible for partial reimbursement of overseas expenses connected with establishing and maintaining trade houses, renting office, retail, and warehouse facilities, as well as running advertising campaigns.

It should be recalled that the creation of this agency was first announced in mid-August 2025 during a video conference dedicated to leveraging the export potential and reserves of the textile sector.
