Uzbekistan Ends Import Incentives for Small-Engine Cars from 2026

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As of 1 January 2026, Uzbekistan has ended the temporary reduction of customs duties on the import of small-engine vehicles.

The incentives, introduced two and a half years ago, were not extended, and standard duty rates now apply to the import of such cars.

In July 2023, a presidential decree had significantly lowered customs duties for the import of fuel-efficient cars. For vehicles with engines up to 1,000 cubic centimeters, the duty was set to zero, while for cars with engines up to 1,200 cc it was established at 5%. The measure was aimed at fostering competition in the domestic auto market and providing more affordable passenger vehicles to the population, and the National News Agency of Uzbekistan described the decision at the time as “long-awaited.”

Under the previous incentives, the total customs burden on vehicles with engines up to 1,000 cc was reduced from 39–43% to 19–23%, and for cars with engines from 1,000 to 1,200 cc—from 44–52% to 30–36%. Calculations published at the time by Gazeta used examples of vehicles valued at US$10,000 and US$20,000.

With the expiration of the incentives, standard tariffs have been reinstated from the beginning of 2026. Currently, the customs duty on new passenger cars up to one year old with engines up to 1,000 cc is 15% of the customs value plus US$0.40 per cubic centimeter. For new vehicles with engines up to 1,200 cc, the duty is 15% of the value plus US$0.60 per cubic centimeter.
