Uzbekistan, EBRD Discuss Climate-Resilient Agriculture Projects
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Minister of Agriculture, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, met with Andy Aranitasi, Head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Uzbekistan, to discuss joint initiatives in the agricultural sector.
The talks focused on projects including the “Climate-Resilient Smart Agriculture and Food Systems in Uzbekistan” initiative, as well as the creation of a country-specific investment platform for agriculture and food systems. These measures are designed to modernize the agro-food system, enhance resource efficiency, and adapt to climate change, providing a practical framework to attract investment and promote sustainable sector development.
Officials reviewed implementation mechanisms, project priorities, and specific measures within the initiatives. Discussions emphasized investment mobilization tools, expanded cooperation with international financial institutions, and the introduction of innovative agricultural approaches.
The meeting also covered the development of a phased “roadmap” for project execution and the adoption of HECI principles to strengthen human capital, ensure environmental sustainability, and improve institutional efficiency.
Both sides stressed that the initiatives will enhance food security, improve rural livelihoods, and support long-term agricultural growth. Agreements were reached to expand cooperation, share best practices, and implement joint projects in a structured manner.
