Uzbekistan Dismissed 59 Judges, Three Prosecuted for Corruption In 2025

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In 2025, 59 judges in Uzbekistan were relieved of their duties, with three of them facing criminal prosecution for corruption, the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court, Alisher Usmanov, reported.

"Three of our judges were prosecuted not for issuing unjust rulings, but for accepting bribes. By court verdict, they were removed from office and are serving the sentences imposed," Usmanov emphasized.

Among the remaining 56 judges, six were dismissed for violating the Code of Ethical Conduct, ten for breaches of legality in the administration of justice, one for an official offense damaging the honor and dignity of a judge, 35 resigned voluntarily, and four ceased their duties due to death.

"This demonstrates that active measures are being taken within the judiciary to address irresponsible and corruption-prone judges," the Supreme Court representative noted.

Usmanov cited specific cases, including that of an investigative judge at the Yangiyarik District Court in Khorezm Region, who in the summer of 2025 demanded US$15,000 from a citizen in exchange for facilitating an acquittal. Failing to deliver on the promise, he was apprehended while attempting to recover the money he had received.

Additionally, the Chairman of the Khanabad City Court in Andijan Region was found guilty of fraud and involvement in bribery and sentenced to ten years and six months in prison. In May 2025, he was caught accepting a bribe of US$30,000.

These cases underscore the Uzbek authorities’ determination to pursue a consistent and rigorous fight against corruption within the judicial system.
