Uzbekistan Discusses Sustainable Development and Combating Disinformation with the UN
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting was held in New York between representatives of Uzbekistan and Melissa Fleming, UN Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications.
During the discussions, the sides highlighted the large-scale reforms and positive transformations being carried out in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as well as the country’s strengthened international standing and achievements in media freedom, transparency, and access to information.
The parties reviewed key UN initiatives and campaigns aimed at advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, countering disinformation, and engaging youth. Particular attention was given to issues of strategic communications, media cooperation, and the expansion of educational programs for journalists.
It was emphasized that the inclusion of the University of Journalism and Mass Communications and the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in the UN Academic Impact program will create additional opportunities for students and researchers to participate in global educational and scientific initiatives.
The meeting also addressed prospects for cooperation in combating disinformation, training young journalists, and enabling their participation in UN international internships.
As a result, both sides agreed to work on joint projects and ensure the active participation of the UN Department of Global Communications in upcoming events in Uzbekistan.
