Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On the sidelines of the 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a meeting took place between IAEA Deputy Director General Liu Hua and the Uzbek delegation, which included leaders from the Uzatom Agency, the Ministry of Energy, and the Committee for Industrial, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety.

The parties discussed current achievements, ongoing work, and plans for the application of nuclear technologies across various sectors of Uzbekistan’s economy, including energy, medicine, and agriculture. IAEA representatives noted the significant progress Uzbekistan has made in developing its nuclear program, emphasizing the government’s active involvement, which creates a strong foundation for the expanded peaceful use of atomic energy.

Particular attention was given to the project for constructing Uzbekistan’s first nuclear power plant, considered a key element in ensuring the country’s sustainable energy future. Uzbekistan expressed interest in expanding technical cooperation with the IAEA to successfully implement this project.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on prospects for further collaboration, confirming their readiness to continue dialogue and joint efforts on projects aimed at advancing nuclear technologies for sustainable socio-economic development.

Uzbekistan intends to continue active engagement with the IAEA, participate in international nuclear energy forums, and implement advanced technologies that ensure the safety and efficiency of atomic energy use.
