Uzbekistan discuss ratification of UN Convention “On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An expanded session of the Consultative council on the issues of people with disabilities under the National Association of the NGOs of Uzbekistan (NANGO) was held in Tashkent on 2 December 2013.

Representatives of NGOs, MPs and Senators, employees of the state bodies and international organizations, accredited in Uzbekistan, participated at the session.

The session was organized by the NANGO at the support of Independent Institute on forming civil society, UNDP and National Human Rights Center.

The main goal of the event is to attract attention of public to measures, adopted in Uzbekistan, to protect and promote interests of people with disabilities and develop the draft national action plan on preparation to the ratification of the UN Convention “On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”.

Within the session, the participants considered institutional development of NGOs, which are engaged in issues related with the people with the disabilities.

Representatives of the state bodies delivered reports on positive role of the NGOs in solving problems in social sector.

The participants underlined that the draft national action plan on preparation to the ratification of the UN Convention “On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities” should reflect proposals of the NGOs, working in social sector.

The reports underlined that the results of the Universal periodical review of Uzbekistan recommended to ratify the UN Convention “On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”.

The session also discussed results of the work of the Consultative Council of the NANGO on issues of people with the disabilities for 2013 and plans for 2014.

In the result of the session, the participants developed several proposals on necessary measures on stage-by-stage and complex preparation to ratification of the UN Convention.
