Uzbekistan directs 213 bn soums to improve water supply of population

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan directed 213 billion soums (about US$97 million on the exchange rate of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan) to construction of 1,850 km of new water supply pipelines, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said on Friday, 6 December 2013.

Speaking at the solemn ceremony dedicated to the 21st anniversary of Constitution of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov said that this helped to provide drinking water to 1.37 million citizens of the country.

Uzbek head said that Uzbekistan implements eight large investment projects for US$96 million in Andijan, Bukhara, Surkhandarya, Ferghana regions and Samarkand, Bukhara, Termez and Qoqand cities.

Islam Karimov noted that implementation of these projects will improve water supply for 365,000 population and modernize sewage system.
