Uzbekistan develops draft law against corruption

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan works on development of a draft law “On combating corruption”. This was announced at the conference “Eliminating reasons and conditions, causing corruption and helping to its occurrence”.

The conference was held at the High Military Customs Institute of the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan.

At the conference, it was noted that President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed an order “On programme measures on improving legal norms and mechanisms and preparation of the draft law “On combating corruption” on 29 October 2012.

In line with the order, the commission on developing the draft law was created and it includes representative of various ministries and departments, law enforcement bodies, including the State Tax Committee.

According to the resolution said that Uzbekistan carried out significant and systematic work on forming legislative base for combating corruption, further developing and strengthening institutional base, improve effective activities of the law enforcement and judicial bodies in fighting corruption, realization of principle of responsibility for committing such crimes.

The country carries out measures on preventing corruption in all spheres via attraction of civil society and mass media.

It is worth to mention that Uzbekistan joined to the UN Convention against corruption in 2008, which is universal international document in this sphere. The country also joined the action plan on combating corruption of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development.
