Uzbekistan Deports Man Wanted for Over 25 Years

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In November, the State Security Service of Uzbekistan, in cooperation with foreign intelligence agencies, detained and deported a man who had been on the country’s wanted list for more than 25 years, the SSS press service reported.

According to the agency, the detainee was a supporter of religious-extremist ideologies and left Uzbekistan in 1999 with the intention of undertaking “hijrah” and “jihad.”

He participated in armed conflicts as part of international terrorist organizations in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Syria.

For many years, the man evaded authorities using forged documents under a false identity and was eventually apprehended in a CIS country.

A criminal case has been opened against him under Articles 154 (mercenary activities), 155 (terrorism), and 159 (attempts against the constitutional order of Uzbekistan) of the Criminal Code. Investigative actions are currently ongoing.
