Uzbekistan Defeats Qatar in Dominant World Cup Qualifier Performance
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s national football team delivered a commanding 3–0 victory over Qatar in the final match of the third round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
From the opening whistle, the team coached by Timur Kapadze controlled the game’s tempo. Midfielder Azizbek Turgunboev opened the scoring in the 28th minute, capping off a strong first-half performance by the hosts.
Despite creating numerous scoring chances throughout the match, Uzbekistan struggled with finishing until the closing stages. In the 86th minute, AS Roma forward Eldor Shomurodov doubled the lead with a clinical strike.
In stoppage time, substitute Igor Sergeev sealed the result with a goal from a corner kick, bringing the final score to 3–0.
Uzbekistan had already made history by securing qualification for the FIFA World Cup finals — the first in the nation’s history — one round before the conclusion of the third stage.
The 2026 World Cup will take place from 11 June to 19 July across three host nations: the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
