Uzbekistan Considers Law to Support Women Affected by Violence and Protect Children’s Rights

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has reviewed in its first reading a draft law aimed at improving the system for protecting women affected by violence and oppression, as well as ensuring the best interests of children.

The draft law envisages expanding the powers of the National Agency for Social Protection and women’s rehabilitation and adaptation centers. These institutions will be able to represent victims in court without paying state fees and participate in judicial proceedings as their official representatives.

Additionally, the law guarantees that women retain their jobs and positions during their stay in specialized centers.

The draft also introduces the concept of “the best interests of the child,” strengthening the legal framework for protecting minors’ rights and aligning national legislation with international standards.

The adoption of the law is aimed at further enhancing the legal mechanisms for state protection of women and children, as well as improving the effectiveness of social support systems for victims. The draft law was approved by deputies in its first reading.
