Uzbekistan Collected 153 Tons of High-Quality Blood in 2025
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In 2025, Uzbekistan collected 153 tons of high-quality blood, the Ministry of Health reported. This is 5 tons more than in 2024 and 22.4 tons more than in 2023.
The development of voluntary blood donation remains a priority to ensure the supply for patients with severe illnesses, including oncological and hematological conditions, as well as for those who have suffered serious injuries.
The country operates the Republican Blood Transfusion Center, the Tashkent Research Institute of Blood Products, 13 territorial and 2 republican blood transfusion stations, and 13 blood transfusion departments.
“According to WHO recommendations, each country should maintain 30 donors per 1,000 people. In Uzbekistan, this figure is currently 10. Meeting the recommended level would allow us to fully meet the needs of medical institutions,” said Aalonur Saidov, Director of the Republican Blood Transfusion Center.
To increase accessibility, mobile blood donation services have been introduced: 13 mobile units based on Isuzu buses, equipped with beds, refrigerators, hemocontainers, bactericidal lamps, air conditioning, and lighting, have been deployed to regional areas. Each unit can simultaneously serve three donors.
Under current legislation, citizens aged 18–60, weighing over 50 kg, and with hemoglobin levels of at least 128 g/L for men and 120 g/L for women, can donate blood up to four times a year, with each donation up to 450 ml.
Law No. ЗРУ-1041 of February 28, 2025, increased the one-time cash reward for holders of the “Honorary Donor of the Republic of Uzbekistan” badge to 15 base amounts and introduced additional benefits, including an annual paid leave at a convenient time, free use of public transport (excluding taxis), and priority access to sanatorium and resort treatment.
The promotion of voluntary blood donation and the expansion of the material and technical base of blood transfusion institutions gradually improve the quality of medical care and ensure a stable supply of vital blood components to healthcare facilities across the country.
