Uzbekistan Climbs FIFA Rankings
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Uzbekistan national football team has risen to 55th place in the latest FIFA World Rankings, according to the press service of the Uzbekistan Football Association. The team now holds 1,449.12 ranking points.
This progress was made possible by Uzbekistan’s recent victory over the reigning Asian champions — the national team of Qatar.
As a result, Uzbekistan has moved up to sixth place among the teams of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Japan, Iran, and the Republic of Korea lead the AFC rankings, holding the first, second, and third positions respectively.
It is also worth noting that Uzbekistan successfully qualified for the FIFA World Cup, finishing second in Group A of the qualifying stage.
In the decisive match held on 10 June, Uzbekistan defeated Qatar, bringing their total points in the group to 21.
On the same day, Iran beat North Korea and topped the group with 23 points.
