Uzbekistan Climbs 43 Places in World Bank Index on Women's Economic Rights
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has ranked 48th out of 190 countries in the World Bank's "Women, Business and the Law" index, scoring 82.1 out of 100 and improving its position by 43 places compared to the previous report.
In the area of supporting women's economic participation, the country placed among the top five in the world. The report's authors commended a number of systemic reforms, including the introduction of gender-responsive provisions in public procurement, legislative incentives for women's entrepreneurship, and a revision of restrictions in the areas of labor and social protection.
Uzbekistan received the maximum score of 100 points across five indicators — "Mobility," "Family," "Pay," "Childcare," and "Assets" — while recording significant gains in the "Labor" indicator, which rose from 50 to 91.75 points, and in the "Pension" indicator, which increased from 50 to 66.75 points.
At the same time, the World Bank recommended that Uzbekistan continue reforms aimed at improving the business environment, expanding labor market opportunities, strengthening social incentive mechanisms, and enhancing education and monitoring systems.
