Uzbekistan - Austria: from cooperation in the field of education to real investment

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 7 March Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov met with Deputy Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria Johannes Peterlik, who arrived in our country on a working visit, as well as with the Ambassador Austria Alois Kraut.

During the conversation, they reviewed the current state of bilateral economic relations between the two states, as well as prospects for expanding and strengthening intergovernmental cooperation in this direction.

 “Now Uzbekistan is experiencing a turning point in its development: the country has embarked on the path of very important political and administrative reforms and changes. In this regard, it is extremely important to correctly build a strategy of interaction with priority partners already at the initial stage,” - Mr. Peterlik said.

The conversation also reviewed the preparations for the next meeting of the Uzbek-Austrian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation in April 2019 in Tashkent and the organization of a business forum for business circles of Austria and Uzbekistan. Moreover, the possibility of holding an investment forum in Austria with the assistance of the Vienna Financial and Economic Forum was considered.

The parties were pleased to note the educational programs for export orientation, tourism and other relevant areas initiated by the University of Applied Sciences of Austria that are successfully implemented on the basis of the Tashkent State Economic University.

This tandem is an excellent example of successful cooperation between the two countries that went beyond the scope of education: during the meeting, an investment project to create a ski resort in the Tashkent region, developed in close cooperation between Austrian and Uzbek specialists and experts, was presented to the minister.

The Uzbek ministry expressed readiness to fully assist in the implementation of this project after studying its technical and economic indicators
