The General Prosecutor’s Office of Uzbekistan sent a request to the Russia’s General Prosecutor’s Office on legal assistance on Karimova’s criminal case, the agency said.
The Uzbek side requested the Russian authorities to arrest real estate of Gulnara Karimova in Russia.
The request is under the consideration, the Russian General Prosecutor’s Office said. According to the Uzbek side, the request contains the confidential information.
The probe was launched against Karimova in October 2013 for extortion and large-scale tax evasion committed by the organized criminal group for 2001-2013. The court sentenced to 5 years in prison in August 2015.
The General Prosecutor’s Office of Uzbekistan reported that investigation against Karimova continues for other charges and she is taken into custody. The total amount of the damage amounted almost US$2 billion. Uzbekistan initiates arrest of shares in 12 countries, including in Russia, for more than US$1.5 billion.
