Uzbekistan and US Expand Cooperation in Migration
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from the Republic of Uzbekistan, comprising representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Migration Agency, conducted a series of meetings at relevant departments in the United States with the assistance of the country's diplomatic missions.
During negotiations at the U.S. Department of Labor, the parties noted a high level of mutual trust and the steady development of Uzbek-American strategic partnership relations. The American side gave a positive assessment of the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan in the field of combating forced and child labor, as well as the effectiveness of interaction on migration issues, including the organized repatriation of Uzbek citizens.
Special attention was paid to the prospects for expanding cooperation in the field of labor migration. In particular, the possibility of Uzbekistan's participation in the H-2A seasonal worker visa program, which regulates the recruitment of foreign workers into the U.S. agricultural sector, was discussed.
Within the framework of the delegation's visit to the U.S. Department of State, the positive dynamics of bilateral relations and a high level of political dialogue were noted. The strategic significance of Uzbekistan to the United States was emphasized. The parties agreed to continue close interaction in implementing joint initiatives in the political, economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres, as well as on the exchange of information regarding consular and legal issues.
In Washington, a meeting was held at the Embassy of Uzbekistan with representatives of the U.S. National Council of Agricultural Employers. Furthermore, the delegation participated in employer and compatriot forums held in Philadelphia and New York.
It was noted that such events contribute to strengthening ties among compatriots abroad, developing cultural and educational initiatives, and preserving national traditions among the youth, while also expanding engagement with employers to create new opportunities for attracting labor resources from Uzbekistan.
