Uzbekistan and UNFPA Discuss Poverty Reduction and Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva held a meeting with Florence Bauer, UNFPA Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan, demographic trends, poverty reduction measures, gender equality issues, labor migration, as well as current and prospective joint projects with UNFPA.
Florence Bauer highlighted the successful organization of the international forum “From Poverty to Prosperity,” held under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan in Namangan region, emphasizing that poverty reduction remains a key priority among the Sustainable Development Goals and highly praised the practical implementation of initiatives in this area.
It was noted that in recent years Uzbekistan, within the framework of the “Uzbekistan – 2030” Strategy, has been implementing large-scale reforms in the political, social, and economic spheres, achieving significant progress in human rights, democratic processes, and sustainable development. UNFPA has been supporting preparations for the national census, demographic analysis, as well as initiatives in reproductive health and gender equality.
Following the meeting, both sides agreed to continue joint efforts to expand cooperation, improve public welfare, and advance the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
