Uzbekistan and UNESCO Discuss Bukhara Heritage Sites
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 8 April, in Paris, Gayane Umerova, Chairperson of the National Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan for UNESCO and the Art and Culture Development Foundation, held a meeting with Lazare Eloundou Assomo, Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Center.
During the negotiations, the parties discussed priority areas of cooperation regarding the preservation and effective management of World Heritage sites in Uzbekistan. Particular attention was paid to ongoing projects in Bukhara, including the restoration of the Poi Kalon architectural complex and the establishment of an open-air archaeological museum within the Shahristan area.
The meeting also covered measures to protect cultural heritage sites in accordance with the World Heritage Convention and international standards, while simultaneously ensuring the sustainable development of historic cities.
Following the discussion, both parties agreed to further strengthen their cooperation and implement joint initiatives dedicated to the protection of cultural heritage.
