Uzbekistan and UK expand cooperation in education

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On the instructions of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Minister of Public Education of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov from 21 to 25 January 2019 participated in the Education World Forum in London (United Kingdom).

The forum was attended by ministers of education and officials from over 100 countries. In the Education World Forum, participants discussed issues for the further development of the education sector.

It should be noted that developed countries, including the UK, are positive about the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

For example, despite the fact that the Education World Forum was attended by the ministers of education of over 100 countries of the world, the British Minister of State for Schools Nick Gibb paid special attention to the delegation of Uzbekistan. A separate official welcoming ceremony was held for the Minister of Public Education of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov. During the meeting, the sides discussed reforms carried out in the field of public education in Uzbekistan.

The ministers also addressed issues of improving the quality of education and improving the teaching of English in Uzbekistan.

Nick Gibb expressed his willingness to assist in improving the methodology of teaching English and improving the skills of teachers. He supported the work of the British Council in this direction.

It should be noted that the ministers of two countries held the first meeting for at least the last ten years, which shows the UK’s interest in reforms in Uzbekistan.

Within the Forum, Minister Sherzod Shermatov held meetings and negotiations with the Secretary of State for Education of Great Britain, Member of Parliament Damian Hinds, former Secretary of State for Education, Senior Counselor of the British Council on English Charles Clarke, as well as a number of representatives from the Department for International Trade and the British Council.

During these meetings, issues of cooperation between the parties in improving the teaching of English in Uzbekistan were discussed.

During these meetings, Britain confirmed the readiness to further develop cooperation with Uzbekistan in the field of education.

The delegation of Uzbekistan also held meetings and negotiations with representatives of Cambridge Assessment International Education, Bridge International Academies, Education First (Sweden) and other organizations.

Representatives of foreign companies expressed their desire to cooperate with Uzbekistan in teaching English, testing the knowledge of English teachers, introducing a platform for online monitoring of the educational process, teaching to teach Uzbek specialists on the basis of an online English language training program.

The delegation of Uzbekistan also took part in the program of the British Council "Dialogue on education policy: how young people are preparing for the future, which we are trying to predict."
