Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Prospects for development at a new historical stage of interaction

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, on 12 July, the International Institute of Central Asia hosted an international conference on the topic: “Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Prospects for development at a new historical stage of interaction”. 

The event was organized by the International Institute of Central Asia together with the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The conference was attended by representatives of government agencies and analytical structures, the public of the two countries. In particular, representatives of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the International Institute of Central Asia, the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Center for Economic Research and Reforms under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Information and Analytical Center for International Relations under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Coordination and Methodological Center for the Modern History of Uzbekistan under the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, the Republican Turkmen National Cultural Center, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Scientific Center for Strategic Studies under the IMO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the International University for the Humanities of Turkmenistan, the Institute of Language, Literature and National manuscripts to them. Makhtumkuli of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan are attending the event.

The experts discussed in detail the issues of the current state of Uzbek-Turkmen cooperation, the prospects for further strengthening the strategic partnership between our countries, as well as interaction within the framework of the Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of Central Asia.

It was noted with satisfaction that relations between the two countries are progressively developing, based on the principles of centuries-old friendship, good neighborliness and mutual respect for fraternal peoples.

It was emphasized that the first foreign visit of the Leader of Uzbekistan, which took place in March 2017 to Turkmenistan, laid a new positive trend in bilateral relations.

The firm political will of the leaders of the states and new approaches to building relationships contributed to a significant strengthening and expansion of political, diplomatic, trade, economic, transport, communication, cultural and humanitarian ties, creating conditions for maintaining stability, peaceful and sustainable development of the entire Central Asian region.

Of great importance in Uzbek-Turkmen relations is the proximity of approaches to the implementation of large-scale and long-term strategies, concepts and programs adopted by the international community represented by the UN, the readiness to provide all possible assistance in the speedy achievement of civil peace and harmony in neighboring Afghanistan.

The speakers separately emphasized that Tashkent and Ashgabat are interested not only in strengthening bilateral relations, but also in ensuring the sustainable development of the vast region of Central Asia.

As a result of the event, the experts developed specific initiatives with proposals for their implementation, aimed at further developing bilateral relations, strengthening regional dialogue and cooperation.
