The ceremony of exchange of letters was held in Samarkand within the framework of the international conference “Central Asia: One Past and a Common Future, Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Mutual Prosperity”.

The agreement was signed within the framework of the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Turkmenistan in March 2017.

The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed law “On ratification of the Strategic Partnership Agreement between the Republic of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan (Ashgabat, March 6, 2017)” on 1 June 2017.

The law was passed by the Legislative Chamber on 17 May 2017 and approved by the Senate on 27 May 2017.
